Binge Worthy Shows for Couples

Any guesses what I’m doing currently while I write this post? Obvi I’m binge watching a show! If you were one of the ones who voted for this post on Instagram, then you know we are sharing the shows we deem worthy of a binge as a couple. But what does that even mean?

“Binge-watching, also called binge-viewing or marathon-viewing, is the practice of watching content for a long time span, usually a single television show. In a survey conducted by Netflix in February 2014, 73% of people define binge-watching as "watching between 2-6 episodes of the same TV show in one sitting." -Wikipedia

So based off of the above definition we have chosen a variety of shows to share with you.

Our Number One Pick

The Blacklist 2

Our all time favorite show is The Blacklist. Now let me first start by saying The Blacklist is not a show for the faint of heart. Collin is continually surprised that I watch it because I am actually a pretty big wimp with these types of things. It’s a crime thriller that keeps you wanting more and more with every episode.

When we were dating/engaged we watched the first 3 seasons of The Blacklist. At that time those were the only 3 seasons on Netflix. A few days before our wedding season 4 dropped on Netflix. SWEET! This began one of our favorite traditions. We downloaded season 4 on my iPad mini and took it to the Dominican Republic with us. Each night we binged some episodes throughout our honeymoon and officially finished the season before returning to the states. A year later on our 1 year anniversary trip to Las Vegas we did the same thing with season 5. We refuse to watch the show on TV because we think this is a show that has to be BINGED rather than watching one episode a week. We binged season 7 this past October for our 3rd anniversary. What are we going to do when they stop making more seasons? It will be a sad day for sure.

You can watch all 7 seasons of The Blacklist on Netflix.

Reality TV Shows

We are not into a lot of reality TV shows… sorry to all you Bachelor/Bachelorette fans out there! But there are two reality TV shows we really enjoy, one we have never actually binged, and one we are currently binging.

The Amazing Race

The Amazing Race is a show we would love to compete on at some point in our lives (bucket list for sure). We have not actually binged The Amazing Race but watch it from week to week on TV. If this is a show you haven’t watched in the past or a show you haven’t seen all the seasons of, we’d highly recommend it. One of the best things about it is that you get to see so many different countries and learn a ton about different cultures.

You can watch the first 29 out of 32 seasons of The Amazing Race on Hulu.

Survivor

Alright WE LOVE SURVIVOR! Both of us grew up watching Survivor at times with our families so we have seen some earlier seasons. Since being married we’ve watched all the seasons weekly on TV. The most recent season on TV was season 40. Yes, you read that right! 40 freaking seasons! The 40th season was “Winners at War” which meant everyone who played had won before! It was epic! It got us really excited and interested to see how each of those players won their season. So we hopped on Hulu and started at season 1. The very first season aired in the year 2000 and it’s crazy to see where technology was at that time compared to now.

We think Survivor is one of the best shows (and believe me we’ve watched a lot of shows). If you haven’t ever watched Survivor, you’ve got to start. We’ve convinced two of our couple friends to start watching and they are already a couple seasons in as well. I probably shouldn’t admit this to you… but we’ve been watching a minimum of probably 4 episodes a night, sometimes more. And to make it even better, we watched almost the entire 11th season while I was in labor with sweet little Luna last week. It made the day go by much quicker! We were in the middle of a pretty intense spot in the episode when all the sudden the baby was ready to come. Collin shut the laptop real quick and it was go time! So this definitely falls under BINGE WORTHY shows for us.

You can watch the first 34 out of 40 seasons of Survivor on Hulu.

Sitcoms

This may be one of the most popular genres of TV shows. When we ask questions about favorite shows, binge worthy shows, etc. this is the genre that gets the most mentions. We’ve watched a lot of them and we definitely have our opinions on them. Let’s be real, they may differ from yours but hear us out.

The Office

4th Place: The Office

Okay we probably fall into the minority here with our opinion of The Office… Here’s the deal, do we think you need to watch it all the way through once? Yes. Do we plan to ever watch it again? No. We liked the dynamics of some of the characters and different parts of the show, but overall it was not our favorite sitcom. Sorry to the majority of people out there who love it, it just wasn’t our cup of tea. But we did it.

You can watch all 9 seasons of The Office on Peacock.

Parks & Rec 2

3rd Place: Parks & Rec

If we had to choose between The Office and Parks & Rec, we would choose Parks & Rec everytime. Although it’s not one we plan to watch over and over again, we probably will watch it all the way through again at some point. We enjoyed the humor a lot more in Parks & Rec. It also gave Collin the inspiration for one of your favorite dates we shared last year: the Treat Your Spouse date

You can watch all 7 seasons of Parks & Rec on Peacock.

Friends 2

2nd Place: Friends

Friends is a show I could watch again and again. It’s a show I’m fine having on as background noise and a show I could watch multiple episodes in a row. That’s why it comes in second in the sitcom category.

You can watch all 10 seasons of Friends on HBO Max.

How I Met Your Mother 2

1st Place: How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother is Collin’s favorite show. I’d never seen it before we got married. We have watched it all the way through multiple times in the past few years and we will continue to do so through our marriage. When we want a sitcom, this is definitely the first one we are going to turn on. So naturally, it takes first in this category for us.

You can watch all 9 seasons of How I Met Your Mother on Hulu.

Honorable Mentions

Parenthood

We've actually never watched Parenthood together but have done it separately. When we got married I told Collin I thought he'd love Parenthood and should give it a try. He binged it so dang fast it was hilarious! This is definitely one we recommend watching as a couple.

You can watch all 6 seasons on Hulu.

The Good Place

The Good Place was a hit in our house for the first season, possibly two. The premise of the show is so creative and kept us laughing like crazy. As the seasons went on we slowed down a little bit. It’s worth it to finish all 4 seasons, but because we started to fade interest by the end it only falls into the honorable mentions category.

You can watch all 4 seasons of The Good Place on Netflix.

Atypical

Atypical is another fun one. There are currently 3 seasons which we’ve really enjoyed. The family dynamics in the show are entertaining and have kept us wanting more. It may not be a show we’d want to watch an entire season in one sitting, but it deserves a mention.

You can watch all 3 seasons of Atypical on Netflix.
