As many of you know, being in a committed relationship means learning to compromise. Often times we get stuck in the “well what do you want to do?” or “what do you want to eat?” rut which leads us to do things, eat things, etc. that both of us like. But let’s be honest, sometimes you just wanna do what you wanna do even though your lover doesn’t like it.
ENTER FANTASY DATE NIGHT
Lovers alternate months of being in charge. For example, Collin is in charge of January, March, May and so on and McCall is in charge of February, April, June… you get the picture. So one date a month is coined the “Fantasy Date”. Whoever’s month it is plans the date and they do so without any consideration for their lover. Harsh? Not at all. One night every other month you get to be in charge! You get to choose what to eat, where to go, what to do, all the things. And here’s the best part… your lover isn’t allowed to say no!
Now I know what some of you are thinking… “this doesn’t sound fun. My partner is going to choose something I hate.” I must admit, I kinda thought the same thing.
The very first fantasy date night of our marriage Collin chose to get seafood and go to Nickel Mania. One, I absolutely hate seafood (cue the teriyaki chicken and rice) and two, Nickelmania? What are we 9?
Well, I ate my teriyaki chicken and rice, which wasn’t too bad, and then we headed into Nickelmania where it was hot and smelled like sweaty kids and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! We found a game we both were good at (Down the Clown) and hit multiple jackpots! We started a tradition from that night and, if you’re interested, you can read about it here.
Our fantasy date nights are what led us to starting this blog as they’ve ended up being our most fun and unique date nights! What at first seemed like a selfish idea turned into a date we both look forward to every month. These date nights have helped us strengthen our relationship with each other and learn to enjoy each others hobbies/passions.
We post our Fantasy Date Night on Instagram and Facebook each month using #AverageDatersFDN We hope you will implement this with your lover as well and tag us in your posts and/or use the hashtag #AverageDatersFDN We look forward to seeing the unique and fun date nights you come up with!
Happy dating lovers!
